The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has expressed deep concern about the ongoing rise in civilian casualties in Ukraine.
IOM reminded that in July 2025 alone, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights recorded 286 deaths and 1388 injuries among the civilian population. This is the highest monthly figure since May 2022.
'The civilian population in Ukraine continues to bear the heavy burden of war, as Russian strikes hit cities and villages on the front lines and beyond,' the organization stated.
The organization supports the call of the UN Secretary-General for a ceasefire to achieve a just, comprehensive, and sustainable peace in Ukraine.
Displacement remains a pressing issue, with 5.7 million people displaced worldwide, including 3.8 million in Ukraine. Additionally, 4.1 million people have returned to their places of origin.
The International Organization for Migration calls for the protection of civilians
Since 2022, IOM has been providing assistance to those affected and supporting the recovery of communities impacted by hostilities and displacement. The organization emphasizes the urgent need for actions to protect civilians and to counter escalation of violence.
The message from the International Organization for Migration highlights the extreme seriousness of the situation regarding the increase in civilian casualties in Ukraine and calls for accelerated measures to protect the civilian population from violence.
