Death of Volodymyr Tyndyk

Senior Sergeant Volodymyr Tyndyk, who went by the call sign 'Poltava,' died on July 6, 2023, near the village of Yampil in the Donetsk region. He suffered a fatal blast injury while repelling an enemy assault. Tyndyk served in the 4th Separate Tank Brigade named after Hetman Ivan Vyhovsky. In June 2022, he was awarded the Order For Courage, 3rd Class.

Life and Military Service

Tyndyk was born and spent his entire life in the town of Hadiach, Poltava region. He attended the Ye. P. Kocherhin Hadiach Specialized Boarding School and later trained as a gas cutter at the Vepryk Vocational Agricultural Lyceum. Before joining the military, he worked at the NVP Naftogazservice company.

In 2014–2015, he took part in the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) as a member of the 23rd Separate Motorized Infantry Battalion 'Khortytsia' of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. At the start of the full-scale invasion, Tyndyk volunteered to defend the country and served as a mortar crew commander. From March 2022, he held defensive positions in the Kharkiv and Donetsk regions. About a month and a half before his death, he was reassigned to the role of rifleman in a machine-gun platoon.

Tyndyk would have turned 45 on July 22, 2023. He is survived by his wife Oksana and two daughters. His wife paid tribute to him, saying:

“Volodymyr sincerely believed in victory and gave his all to achieve it. All his brothers-in-arms will confirm he was a courageous, experienced, and strong warrior—very responsible, reliable, loyal, and a worthy comrade. He never turned a blind eye to others' grief and always fought for justice. My husband was my rock, my safe haven, my wings, a piece of my heart… taken from me by this accursed war. My deepest bow to him and to everyone who gave the most precious thing—their lives…”

Every day at 9 a.m., Ukrainians observe a moment of silence for all those whose lives have been claimed by the Russian-Ukrainian war. This publication joins that tribute. Volodymyr Tyndyk will be remembered as a brave soldier who fought for Ukraine's independence. He was laid to rest in his hometown of Hadiach.

Tyndyk's death is another stark reminder of the losses Ukraine endures in its war with Russia. His courage and self-sacrifice in combat highlight the heroism of Ukrainian troops who defend their country every day. This tragedy also stirs deep emotions across society, as the loss of each hero becomes a source of pain for many families and the entire nation. Honoring the memory of people like Volodymyr helps preserve their legacy and reminds us of the price of freedom.
