Investigation of the death of the Russian diplomat in Cyprus
An investigation is underway in Cyprus into the death of 41-year-old Russian diplomat Alexey Panov, whose body was found at the diplomatic mission in Nicosia. Panov's death has been classified as 'unnatural', raising numerous questions about the circumstances of its occurrence. This incident occurred against the backdrop of the disappearance of 56-year-old Russian oligarch Vladislav Baumgertner, former CEO of the 'Uralchem' company.
Disappearance of the oligarch and search operations
The last sighting of Baumgertner was noted in Limassol, after which he disappeared. Search operations for the oligarch are ongoing, involving personnel from British sovereign bases. A signal from his mobile phone was detected in the area of the village of Pissouri, further highlighting the seriousness of the situation. The search operation was expanded on January 11 but was later suspended due to stormy weather conditions.
A representative of the Cypriot police, Viron Vironos, stated that currently no connection has been established between Panov's death and Baumgertner's disappearance. At the same time, the death of the Russian journalist found dead on January 6 in Mézón, department of Oise, adds to the overall tension surrounding these events. The investigation continues, and the details of the circumstances remain at the center of attention for law enforcement and the public.
These events underline the complex situation for the Russian community in Cyprus and raise concerns regarding the safety of diplomats and businessmen. The diplomat's death and the oligarch's disappearance may indicate significant risks faced by representatives of Russian interests abroad, as well as generate further questions regarding their security amid global political tensions.
