The Courage of Ihor Shcherban
Ukrainian serviceman Ihor Shcherban was killed in action on June 15, 2026. His death has left a profound void for his family, comrades-in-arms, and the nation. Born on October 21, 1996, in the village of Mali Pidlisky in the Lviv region, Shcherban attended the Mali Pidlisky Primary School, part of the Dublyany Support Lyceum named after Hero of Ukraine Anatoliy Zhalovaha, and later studied at a secondary school (grades I–III) in the settlement of Zapytiv, within the Novoyarychiv settlement council.
Path to Defending the Homeland
For vocational training, Shcherban enrolled at the Higher Vocational School of Computer Technologies and Construction. After graduating, he worked in the construction sector for private companies. In 2023, recognizing the urgent need to defend his country, he joined Ukraine’s armed forces. He fought to protect the nation’s territorial integrity and sovereignty on the Donetsk and Southern Slobozhanskyi fronts.
Shcherban served with the 125th Separate Heavy Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Ground Forces. His death has brought deep sorrow to those close to him; he is survived by a son, his mother, three brothers, extended family, and fellow soldiers. The warrior was buried on June 24, 2026, at the cemetery in Mali Pidlisky.
