Court ordered Russia to pay 65 million for deceased son: details

Росія має виплатити 65 мільйонів за смерть сина: подробиці справи.

The Drohobych District Court of Lviv region has ruled regarding the mother of a deceased Ukrainian soldier in Luhansk, obliging Russia to pay her compensation of 65 million hryvnias. The court recognized that the mother of the deceased serviceman deserves moral compensation for her loss.

The woman turned to the court after her son's death as a result of shelling of Ukrainian territory by Russian troops. She demanded compensation for the psychological suffering caused by the loss of her relative due to Russia's aggression.

«Russia, by committing illegal military aggression against Ukraine, which resulted in the death of her son, deprived her of the meaning of life and hope for the future. The energy of the lost loved one hinders normal communication and life activity. The loss is not only heavy but also deep. The responsibility for this lies with the Russian Federation, which unlawfully and ruthlessly invaded the territory of Ukraine and took her son's life.»

Considering the circumstances of the case, the court recognized that Russia should compensate the mother for her loss and mental trauma. Although the decision can be appealed, it may carry weight as evidence at the international level.

Possible consequences of the court ruling

This ruling could serve as important evidence in international tribunals regarding violations in international relations concerning Russia's military actions in Ukraine. Previous cases also indicate the possibility of such court rulings being taken into account in the investigation of war crimes.

The court emphasized that each decision on compensation for losses during the war can have significant implications in international legal processes. This is important for identifying those responsible for war crimes.
