In September, 43 cases of borreliosis, known as Lyme disease, were recorded in the Vinnytsia region. This is 1.5 times less than in August 2025, but five times more than in January of the same year, when there were eight cases. This was reported by the Vinnytsia Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, as stated by 'Glavkom'.
Lyme disease is primarily transmitted through the bites of infected ticks. The increase in cases during the spring and summer period is associated with the rise in tick activity.
How to protect yourself?
- Avoid tall grass, bushes, and forested areas without proper protection.
- Wear light-colored clothing with long sleeves and dense fabric.
- Use tick repellents.
- Be sure to check yourself and children after walks in nature.
Additionally, infectious disease doctor Nadia Drebota spoke about the risks of tick-borne encephalitis infection in Ukraine and provided recommendations for prevention. According to her, despite the fact that in Europe people are vaccinated against this disease, Ukraine is not considered an endemic zone.
The number of Lyme disease cases in Vinnytsia region decreased in September compared to the previous month, but remains significantly higher than at the beginning of the year. Doctors remind of the importance of protective measures in natural conditions to avoid bites from infected ticks.
