Completion of the New Hospital Wing in Zakarpattia

The construction of a new five-story building at the Bertalan Linner Berehove Hospital in Zakarpattia has been finalized. Ukrainian Minister of Health Viktor Liashko, alongside Deputy Head of the President's Office Viktor Mykyta, visited the hospital to inspect the new departments and review their modern equipment. The project was funded by the state budget with 93.9 million UAH and the regional budget contributing an additional 71.4 million UAH.

Expanded Facilities and Key Healthcare Developments

The newly built wing features several specialized departments, including:

  • A pediatric unit with 24 beds
  • A surgical department housing 32 beds
  • An anesthesiology and intensive care unit with 9 beds
  • An obstetrics and gynecology ward with 15 beds

The facility also includes an operating block with three operating rooms, a dedicated radiology diagnostics area, and an outpatient rehabilitation space. As a cluster hospital within Zakarpattia's capable network, Berehove Hospital is positioned to significantly enhance healthcare delivery across the region.

During the visit, Minister Liashko highlighted the ongoing "Health Screening 40+" program, noting that 820 patients have already undergone screening at the Berehove Primary Healthcare Center. Additionally, nearly 1,000 medication orders have been processed through the "Ukrposhta Pharmacy" service, improving pharmaceutical access for the local community. The center has also established a psychological relief space designed to support both healthcare workers and patients, part of a broader initiative with 60 such spaces created across 21 regions under a collaboration between Ukraine's Ministry of Health and the World Bank's HEAL Ukraine project.

Funding for these initiatives has come from donor contributions to the Ukraine Recovery, Transformation, and Reform Fund (URTF), with project execution managed by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS). Furthermore, Minister Liashko visited the emergency medical teams' base station, emphasizing that doctors serving in these teams earn salaries exceeding 60,000 UAH monthly.

“We are discussing the Carpathian Initiative, aimed at bringing emergency teams closer to mountain and remote communities, improving their base facilities, and upgrading their vehicle fleet.”

The completion of Berehove Hospital's new wing marks a significant advancement in Zakarpattia's healthcare infrastructure. This development will improve the availability and quality of medical services for local residents, particularly in critical areas like surgery and maternal care. Alongside programs such as "Health Screening 40+" and other supportive measures, these efforts reflect the government's commitment to enhancing public health and strengthening support for medical professionals throughout Ukraine.

The recent enhancements at Berehove Hospital mirror similar advancements in healthcare facilities across Ukraine. For instance, the newly upgraded anesthesiology and intensive care unit in Lviv showcases a commitment to improving patient care with its 27 ICU beds. Such developments underscore a nationwide effort to bolster healthcare infrastructure and access to critical services.
