The Russian tank manufacturer uses foreign equipment

The largest tank manufacturer in Russia, 'Uralvagonzavod', uses a large amount of foreign equipment. This was reported by 'Glavkom' citing the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR).

According to information from the 'Instruments of War' section of the War&Sanctions portal, 'Uralvagonzavod' uses over 260 machines and CNC (computer numerical control) processing centers, as well as other high-tech equipment.

Russian aggression and the Uralvagonzavod plant

Most of the foreign equipment was purchased during the modernization of the Russian military-industrial complex in preparation for a possible invasion from 2007 to 2022. These purchases are important for maintaining and upgrading military equipment.

According to intelligence data, 'Uralvagonzavod' is actively expanding production to support Russian aggression. In particular, a new tank engine production was launched there in 2024, using modern foreign equipment.

«To reduce the aggressor's ability to continue the war, it is necessary to strengthen diplomatic efforts, share information, and complicate the evasion of sanctions on an international level. Real investigations and enhanced punishment of sanctions violators are key measures to curb the supply channels of military equipment», the GUR stated.

As of July 2025, the production of metallurgical products in Russia decreased by 10.2% compared to the previous year, which is the worst indicator in the last 3.5 years according to Rosstat data.

It was reported that the largest Russian tank manufacturer 'Uralvagonzavod' uses a significant amount of foreign equipment for the production of military hardware. In particular, it is noted that the plant continues to expand production to support Russian aggression, which may be significant in the context of current geopolitical events.
