Weather Forecasters Predict a Thaw for Ukraine
Meteorologists report that the most severe cold spell in Ukraine has now passed its peak. The most challenging and coldest night of this period is over, with temperatures beginning a gradual climb. This shift follows an intense Arctic blast that gripped the country.
Extremely low temperatures were recorded across Ukraine last night. The coldest spot was in Hlukhiv, Sumy region, where the mercury plunged to -29.9 degrees Celsius. In the Cherkasy region, temperatures ranged from -20 to -24 degrees, with the city of Cherkasy itself hitting -26 degrees. In Zhashkiv, the temperature on the snow surface reached -30 degrees. According to Vitaliy Pistryania, head of the Cherkasy Regional Hydrometeorological Center, another cold night is expected, with lows between -13 and -18 degrees.
Outlook for Improving Conditions
However, a significant temperature increase is anticipated starting the following day, with readings expected to vary from -4 degrees to a positive 1 degree Celsius.
'It's over! The strongest frosts are behind us. That was the coldest night. Ahead lies an upward trend, a gradual warming.' Natalka Didenko, Meteorologist
While further cold snaps remain possible, the overall trend across Ukraine is toward improving weather conditions.
The anticipated warming could positively impact several sectors. For instance, reduced demand for electricity and heating would ease the strain on the national power grid. Furthermore, better conditions may allow farmers to begin preparations for the spring planting season. Monitoring the ongoing temperature changes will be crucial for planning by both the public and businesses.
