Ukraine Support Takes Center Stage at NATO Summit
During the NATO summit scheduled for July 7-8 in Ankara, allied nations are set to unveil fresh commitments to bolster Ukraine. Matthew Whitaker, the U.S. Permanent Representative to NATO, signaled that significant developments are on the horizon for Ukraine, stating that
“all allies will increase their contributions to support Kyiv”. This highlights the growing unity among Alliance members as they ramp up military assistance for Ukraine.
Funding and Strategic Investments
NATO countries have drafted a resolution package that includes €70 billion in military aid for Ukraine. This declaration draft forms part of a broader strategy aimed at strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities. Notably, through the PURL mechanism, allies have already procured weapon systems worth over $6 billion. Plans indicate that funding will remain at similar levels next year, reflecting a long-term commitment to sustaining support for Ukraine.
In addition, European members of the Alliance intend to boost investments in the production of long-range strike systems, air defense assets, and drones.
