Honoring Ukraine’s Fallen Defenders
A ceremony at the Wall of Remembrance in Kyiv marked the start of the official visit by NATO’s North Atlantic Council to Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, joined by representatives from Alliance member states, paid tribute to the country’s fallen soldiers.
Top Alliance officials and diplomats from all 32 NATO member countries attended the event. They laid flowers at the Wall of Remembrance, located near the St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Monastery. Secretary General Rutte arrived in Kyiv and was greeted by Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha. His previous visit to the capital was in early February 2026, when he and President Zelenskyy also honored Ukraine’s fallen servicemen and women.

President Zelenskyy highlighted the significance of the gesture, noting his appreciation for the Alliance’s respect toward Ukrainian soldiers who defended the country and all of Europe from Russian aggression. He added: 'It is very important to remember each and every person who made it possible for us to live freely and choose our way of life. Eternal memory to the fallen Ukrainian defenders. Eternal honor to the heroes!'
