The Nobel Prize in Literature has been awarded to the Hungarian writer 'for his compelling and prophetic work, which in the conditions of apocalyptic terror confirms the power of art.'
Laszlo Krasnahorkai was born in 1954 in the small town of Djula in southeastern Hungary. His first novel 'Satantango' (1985) takes place in a remote rural area. The text became a literary sensation in Hungary, and a film was made based on this novel.
In 2015, Laszlo Krasnahorkai received the International Booker Prize. The Nobel Committee added that the writer adheres to the Central European literary tradition that reaches back to Franz Kafka and Thomas Bernhard. His prose is also characterized by absurdity and grotesqueness.
By the way, this year the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine was awarded to American scientists Mary Brunkov and Fred Ramsdell, as well as Japanese scientist Shimon Sakakuchi. The three researchers were recognized for their revolutionary discoveries in the field of peripheral immune tolerance, which prevents the damage that the immune system can cause to the body. The Nobel Committee also announced the winners of the Nobel Prizes in Physics and Chemistry for 2025. The award went to outstanding scientists from around the world.
