Italy’s Most Comfortable Cities in 2025

Ancona has been ranked as the Italian city with the most favorable climate for residents, according to the latest 2025 national index. This trend has been building since the year 2000, when coastal locations began to gain an edge due to global warming. Following Ancona in the overall ranking are cities including:

  • Bari
  • Vibo Valentia
  • Brindisi
  • Trapani
The best climate in Italy is found in coastal cities stretching from Liguria along the entire Adriatic coastline and across the major islands. As global temperatures rise, Italy’s 8,000 kilometers of shoreline are increasingly serving as a refuge from extreme heat—though summer nights are becoming more stifling even by the sea.

This indicates that large urban centers and cities in the north, especially those in the Po Valley, are performing worse in terms of climate livability.

The Climate Suitability Index used to evaluate conditions in Italian cities relies on 17 parameters and the analysis of over 400 million meteorological data points. As Emanuele Colli, administrator of iLMeteo.it, explains, 'In recent years, the Climate Resilience Index has focused on a central issue: the growing impact that climate has on our society. More than ever, weather forecasting and the study of climate change also mean better understanding the dynamics affecting people and territories.'

As a result, the new 2025 city ranking confirms the continuation of patterns observed over the past two decades. This analysis highlights the importance of studying climate change, as it directly affects the quality of life for populations across different regions of Italy. Given global climate shifts, coastal cities may become increasingly attractive to residents, potentially influencing demographic and social trends across the country.
