Massive Attack on Dnipro and Its Aftermath

During the night of June 2, the city of Dnipro came under a heavy assault that claimed nine lives, including a child born in 2023. While emergency crews were already on the scene, a second strike killed Deputy Chief of the Fire and Rescue Unit, Major Anton Yarmolenko. He was traveling to a call in an official vehicle when the attack occurred.

By 9:40 a.m. on June 2, the child’s body had been recovered from the rubble of a four-story building. A total of 35 people were injured in Dnipro, and the fate of six others remains unknown.

“Nine people were killed in this attack, including a child. Thirty-five were injured in the city. The fate of another six people is unknown. Their search will continue as long as necessary,” the head of state commented on the situation.

Attacks on Kyiv and the Kyiv Region

In addition to Dnipro, a large-scale combined assault also targeted Kyiv and the surrounding region. In the capital, four people were killed and over 50 wounded. Russian forces deployed attack drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles, striking the Kyiv region. As a result, three people were injured, and infrastructure in the Bucha, Vyshhorod, Fastiv, and Obukhiv districts sustained significant damage.

“Among the victims of the shelling is our rescuer — the deputy chief of the fire and rescue unit, Major Anton Yarmolenko. At the time of the strike, he was en route to an emergency call,” reported the State Emergency Service.
This tragedy once again highlights the dangers faced by rescue personnel as they carry out their duties during such challenging times.

This attack on Dnipro and other regions of Ukraine underscores the escalation of violence and the threat to civilian life amid the ongoing conflict. The loss of a rescue worker in the bombardment emphasizes the high risk that emergency services face while trying to aid victims. Such events cause deep concern in society and demand a proper response from both the state and the international community.
