Unexploded Ordnance Lands in Kyiv Kindergarten During Nighttime Attack

Неподалік дитячого садка в Києві вночі вибухнув нерозірваний снаряд.

Kyiv Under Fire: What Happened

In the early hours of June 2, 2026, Russian forces struck Kyiv’s Obolon district, damaging industrial sites and an unfinished construction project. An unexploded munition fell onto the grounds of a local kindergarten. As of 8:00 AM on June 2, the capital reported 4 dead and 58 wounded. The attack also impacted the Kyiv region, hitting areas in Bucha, Vyshhorod, Fastiv, and Obukhiv districts.

Kyrylo Fesyk, head of the Obolon district administration, confirmed that residential zones in the district saw no major damage, while the primary strikes targeted industrial areas and unfinished buildings.

“News of a hostile projectile landing on a preschool facility caused great concern. It did happen. Fortunately, it was an enemy munition intercepted by air defense that failed to detonate,” Fesyk stated.

Infrastructure Impact

The assault involved attack drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles. In Sofiivska Borshchahivka, a two-story warehouse caught fire across 500 square meters, while a townhouse blaze covering about 100 square meters was extinguished nearby. District authorities are preparing a request to the Kyiv City Council for funds to restore damaged sites.

Residents can take some relief in that Obolon’s housing areas avoided significant harm. Still, Fesyk advised

“keeping windows closed during the first half of the day and limiting time outdoors if possible.”
These precautions stem from the risk of follow-up strikes and potential hazards.

The attack on Kyiv and its surrounding region has stirred public alarm, pressing local officials to act swiftly on safety and recovery efforts.
