Four Dead, 58 Wounded in Combined Missile and Drone Strike on Kyiv
Coordinated Attack Targets Ukraine’s Capital
According to Главком: In the early hours of June 2, Russia launched a large-scale assault on Kyiv, combining ballistic and cruise missiles with unmanned aerial vehicles. The attack left four people dead and 58 injured, including three children. Damage was reported across eight districts of the capital, as well as in the broader Kyiv region, where three additional casualties were recorded.
Widespread Destruction Across the City
The strike caused severe damage throughout Kyiv. In the Podil district, a missile hit a nine-story residential building, partially collapsing its upper floors. At least five people were injured in that incident alone. Fires also broke out at a school, a municipal facility, and several non-residential structures.
- In the Holosiiv district, the second and third floors of a clinic were destroyed, while offices, retail spaces, kiosks, and a business center were damaged. Fires erupted not only in non-residential buildings but also in vehicles and other structures in the area.
- The Solomianka district also suffered heavily: missile fragments struck the upper floors of a 15-story building, and a 24-story tower saw fires on levels seven through nine. Rescue teams managed to free one man trapped in the debris.
- In the Shevchenko district, a nine-story building had its facade and roof damaged, and fires ignited in non-residential spaces and a three-story structure.
- The Sviatoshyn district experienced a fire on the first floor of a five-story building, with damage to its facade and windows, along with a blaze on the grounds of a non-residential property.
- In the Darnytsia district, falling drone debris sparked a fire at a gas station and in nearby non-residential buildings.
- The Obolon district was also hit, with debris landing near two kindergartens and a fire breaking out at an unfinished construction site.
- The Pechersk district saw minor damage at an incomplete building project.
That same night, the Kyiv region faced a massive combined assault as well. Three people were injured there, and residential homes, warehouses, logistics centers, businesses, and vehicles were damaged. Affected areas include Bucha, Vyshhorod, Fastiv, and Obukhiv districts.
According to the State Emergency Service and Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, this attack underscores an escalation of military operations in the region.
This strike on Kyiv and its surrounding areas highlights the ongoing volatility in Ukraine and the intensification of the conflict. The rising toll of casualties and destruction points to an increase in aggressive actions by Russia, threatening not only civilian safety but also the humanitarian situation in the region. City authorities and emergency services continue to work on clearing debris and assisting those affected.
The recent assault on Kyiv is part of a troubling trend, as earlier attacks have also targeted every district of the capital, resulting in casualties and significant damage.
