German-Ukrainian Defense Cooperation
At the ILA Berlin Air Show, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius signaled Berlin’s openness to learning from Ukraine’s battlefield experience with unmanned systems and electronic warfare. He also highlighted plans to deepen bilateral cooperation in the defense industrial sector. Pistorius recently traveled to Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region, where he joined Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov to visit drone units deployed between the Dnipro River and Zaporizhzhia city. The visit took place on May 11, during Pistorius’ trip to Ukraine. While in the country, he also toured a Ukrainian air defense unit’s positions.

Boris Pistorius is one of the few foreign defense ministers to have personally visited Ukrainian troops near the front lines.
“We are orienting ourselves toward this,” he stated, underscoring the importance of joint efforts in defense.His trip thus marks a new chapter in Ukraine-Germany security and defense cooperation.
