German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul proposed providing Ukraine with security guarantees similar to NATO membership. He emphasized that this is necessary for the territorial integrity of the country and hopes that it will convince Russian President Vladimir Putin. Wadephul also called on Russia to engage in peaceful negotiations with Ukraine, stressing the importance of avoiding a 'dictatorial peace' at the expense of the Ukrainian people.
'We cannot expect Ukraine to seriously consider territorial concessions if it does not receive at least real security guarantees from as many states as possible, which at least the rest (of the Ukrainian territory - Ed.) will be safe,' the German minister emphasized.
Wadephul also warned that any violation of security guarantees will be regarded as an attack on Ukraine, and called on the RF to cease aggressive actions. According to the minister, about 30 states, including the United States and Japan, are ready to join the process of providing security guarantees.
Ukraine must receive security guarantees from a number of states, which will help it strengthen its position in the face of escalating situations in the east of the country and support territorial integrity. Providing such guarantees can become an important step in ensuring peace and stability in the region, as well as help prevent further escalation of the conflict.
