The German government plans changes to financial support for Ukrainian refugees entering the country from April. Under the new bill, they will receive less money and limited health insurance. This move has sparked controversy between arrivals and the government.

Changes in financial support for Ukrainian refugees in Germany

The German government is discussing a bill to reduce financial aid for Ukrainian refugees arriving in the country from April 1. According to the new conditions, payments will be reduced by about 100 euros, and health insurance will also be limited, reports DW.

Controversy over financial aid

Currently, Ukrainian refugees receive Bürgergeld of 563 euros per person, which is the same as payments for unemployed citizens of Germany. However, under the new bill, new arrivals will receive assistance at the level of other asylum seekers, which is 100 euros less.

Limitations in health insurance

The new rules also provide for limitations in health insurance for newly arrived refugees. According to counseling centers in Berlin, Ukrainians will have access to medical assistance only in emergency situations, during pregnancy, and for vaccinations.

Changes in financial support for Ukrainian refugees in Germany could significantly impact their material situation and access to medical care. The new restrictions have sparked controversy among Ukrainians and are evidenced in some aspects by the new ratio of assistance to that of their German neighbors.
