Statement by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz expressed during a press conference in Paris the need to create conditions in Ukraine for young men to stay in the country. He emphasized that these young people should serve and work in Ukraine, rather than emigrate to European Union countries such as Germany, Poland, or France. Merz stressed that ensuring Ukraine's economic capacity is closely linked to its security.

The Chancellor's statement was made after the 'coalition of the willing' summit, where issues of supporting Ukraine in wartime were discussed. Merz also warned of a potential large-scale humanitarian and energy crisis in Ukraine, which could affect the stability of the country. He accused the Russian authorities of war crimes and emphasized the importance of young people remaining in Ukraine.

'Ukraine must be organized in such a way that its young men serve a safe and economically healthy Ukraine, rather than emigrating to Germany, Poland, or France,' Merz stated.

He added that Ukraine must guarantee this, so that young people do not emigrate to other countries. 'This is an expectation that Ukraine can and will meet,' concluded the German Chancellor.

Significance of the Chancellor's Statements

Friedrich Merz's statements reflect the concerns of European leaders regarding Ukraine's demographic losses due to war and the migration of youth. Retaining young men in Ukraine is important not only for strengthening the country's defense capabilities but also for restoring the economy after the conflict ends.

The Chancellor's words underline the necessity of international support for Ukraine in creating conditions for stable development and security, which are critically important for the country's future.
