New Presidential Aircraft Livery
The new fleet of presidential and government aircraft will receive a new color scheme proposed by former U.S. President Donald Trump, replacing the classic light blue design. This redesign is a significant departure from a decades-old tradition. The new livery will incorporate the colors red, white, gold, and dark blue.
Aircraft Slated for Repainting
The repainting plan is set to affect the following aircraft:
- Two new Boeing 747 jets being prepared as the primary presidential aircraft;
- One Boeing 747, donated by Qatar and retrofitted for use by the head of state;
- Four smaller C-32 aircraft, used for transporting the Vice President and other government officials.
The aircraft previously featured the classic light blue livery, a design first used during the administration of the 35th U.S. President, John F. Kennedy. During Trump's first term, plans to change the color scheme were abandoned due to technical risks and potential cost overruns. The U.S. Air Force has now revived the idea. The specific cost of the new paint job has not been disclosed or published separately.
Altering the paint scheme of the U.S. President's aircraft is a symbolic step that may reflect the new priorities of the Trump administration.
The classic light blue design became an integral part of American identity and history, so the shift to new colors is likely to provoke mixed public reactions. This project also underscores the critical role aviation infrastructure plays in ensuring the security and mobility of the nation's highest-ranking officials.
