Russia continues to actively jam GPS signals in the Baltic Sea, raising serious concerns among European Union countries. According to the Swedish Transport Agency Transportstyrelsen, the number of jamming incidents has significantly increased.

News from the European Commission also indicates a troubling trend. In 2025, 13 EU member states reported an increase in jamming and signal spoofing incidents. As a result, the Estonian regulator reported that as many as 85% of flights in their country are facing navigation issues.

'Russia's systemic interference with GPS operations is a serious threat to civilian passenger flights and international security. These so-called hybrid attacks reflect Russia's overall strategy to undermine Europe's resilience and attempts to reduce support for Ukraine through intimidation of the population.'

The spread of GPS jamming issues in the Baltic Sea is becoming increasingly serious and prompting more countries to seek measures to strengthen their cybersecurity. In this regard, international experts and states are looking for joint solutions to prevent further interference and threats to international security.
