Odesa will receive about 40 buses from communities in different regions of Ukraine to stabilize passenger transportation. The need arose due to the challenging situation with electricity supply in the Odesa region after massive Russian shelling, as nearly 40% of the city's transport operates on electricity and cannot fully go on routes. This was reported by the Deputy Prime Minister for the reconstruction of Ukraine and Minister of Community Development and Territories Oleksii Kuleba.

The coordination of the transport transfer is carried out by the Ministry of Community Development and Territories of Ukraine. The agency ensures interaction between communities and prompt response to the needs of regions in crisis conditions.

Buses for Odesa: who and how many transport is provided

As reported by Oleksii Kuleba, assistance to the city is provided by communities from several regions. They are already preparing their vehicle fleets for dispatch.

Buses are being sent to Odesa:

  • 10 buses each – Lviv and Kropyvnytskyi communities;

  • 5 buses each – Mykolaiv and Zhytomyr;

  • 3 buses each – Mariupol and Vinnytsia;

  • additional buses – from the Bila Tserkva community.

Part of the transport is already heading to the city, the rest are expected to be delivered in the coming days. The buses will operate during the resolution of the energy crisis consequences.

Community support: how mutual aid works during the war

The transfer of transport is carried out within the framework of the national project Shoulder to Shoulder: united communities. Its goal is direct interaction between communities from different regions to support each other in wartime conditions.

According to Oleksii Kuleba, such cooperation allows:

  • to quickly respond to crisis situations on the ground;

  • to support the operation of public transport;

  • to ensure stable daily life for residents.

Over 1100 communities have already joined the initiative to jointly assist regions with the highest burden.

Previously, we reported that on January 1, 2026, Russian troops carried out a drone attack on the port infrastructure of Ukraine, causing significant damage to the Odesa and Izmail ports.
