Igor Koval became the acting mayor of Odesa

The secretary of the Odesa city council, Igor Koval, has been appointed as the acting mayor. This information was published on the city council's website, reports 'Glavkom'.

The reason for Koval's appointment as acting mayor was the second clause of Article 42 of the Law of Ukraine 'On Local Self-Government in Ukraine'.

Protests over Trukhanov's loss of citizenship

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, signed a decree revoking the Ukrainian citizenship of several individuals holding Russian passports, including the mayor of Odesa, Gennady Trukhanov, former MP Oleg Tsaryov, and ballet dancer Sergey Polunin.

However, the mayor of Odesa, Gennady Trukhanov, claims that he does not possess Russian citizenship. He calls the president's decision to revoke his Ukrainian citizenship a 'falsification'.

After this decision, protests took place outside the city council building in Odesa. Participants demanded Trukhanov's resignation and the establishment of a military administration in the city.

After the president of Ukraine signed a decree revoking the citizenship of several individuals, including the mayor of Odesa, the situation in the city became tense. Both the decision itself and Trukhanov's response to it caused outrage. Protests have already occurred outside the city hall, and the situation remains extremely tense.
