A Comprehensive Defensive Perimeter for Odesa
Military authorities are constructing an extensive, multi-layered defensive system around the city of Odesa and its surrounding region, designed to counter threats from land and sea. Denis Nosikov, head of the 'South' Regional Territorial Defense Forces Command, confirmed the ongoing, intensive work, describing the emerging network as exceptionally robust. This effort is part of Ukraine's broader strategy to secure its vital Black Sea coastline. Engineering works currently underway include the installation of:
- anti-tank ditches,
- dragon's teeth obstacles,
- and various other low-visibility defensive structures.
Simultaneously, thousands of local volunteers in the Odesa region are undergoing military training. These recruits are being drilled on proving grounds and are being authorized to carry weapons. Nosikov emphasized the critical nature of these preparations, stating,
"No one will simply walk in here."
Securing the Skies Above the City
The airspace over Odesa is protected by an integrated air defense network, which officials report is currently intercepting 70-80% of incoming Russian drones. Mobile patrol groups and specialized interceptor crews maintain a constant vigil. Projections indicate that the effectiveness of this aerial shield could soon reach 99.9%. Denis Nosikov believes that
"the enemy's rhetoric and intentions regarding Odesa will shift once they witness the strength of its defenses."The city's air defenses have been repeatedly tested since the full-scale invasion began.
