Jeff Monson plans to participate in the elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation
Famous former mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter, deputy of the Kurultai of the Republic of Bashkortostan Jeff Monson has decided to participate in the elections for the deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation in 2026. Monson himself announced this to journalists from the "Glavkom" portal.
«Information about my participation in the elections will be published on my website in the next three weeks», – Monson said, noting he would like to represent the ruling party «United Russia» in the elections.
According to him, becoming a deputy of the State Duma would allow him to implement more of his social projects.
«I am already opening various rehabilitation centers, children's clubs. Now I want to do this on a larger scale. I live in Bashkortostan but intend to expand my area of activity. In the State Duma, I will have more opportunities», – he explained.
Russian athletes at a propaganda event
American Monson received Russian citizenship in 2018 and renounced his American passport in 2024. He supports Russian intervention in Ukraine and agrees with myths of Russian propaganda.
On February 29, 2024, Russian speed skater Alexandra Sayutina took part in Putin's annual address to the Federal Assembly.
Another supporter of Putin, Russian skier Veronika Stepanova, posted a photo on Instagram featuring Sayutina at the propaganda event. She was there along with Putin supporters and Russian military personnel.
Participation in such events contradicts the IOC's recommendations regarding neutral athletes. Sayutina has received visas to enter the USA and Canada to participate in the World Cup in speed skating.
Jeff Monson, a renowned former mixed martial arts fighter, plans to run in the State Duma elections in 2026. He expressed a desire to represent the 'United Russia' party and emphasized the opportunities for implementing social projects if elected. Meanwhile, Russian athletes like speed skater Alexandra Sayutina participate in propaganda events, violating International Olympic Committee recommendations regarding the neutrality of sports events.
