Every day at 9 a.m., Ukrainians honor the memory of all those who died in the Russian-Ukrainian war. Today, our attention is focused on Oleksandr Malanchuk.
29-year-old lieutenant Oleksandr Malanchuk, known as Charlie, was mortally wounded on March 31, 2020, during the shelling of the Ukrainian Armed Forces positions near the village of Hnutove in the Donetsk region.
"Oleksandr did not dream of a military career before the events on Maidan. He changed when the Heavenly Hundred died," said his mother Larysa Malanchuk.
Malanchuk was born on September 26, 1998, in Chernivtsi. He decided to dedicate his life to defending his homeland and enrolled in the Hetman Petro Sahaidachny National Academy of Ground Forces in Lviv.
For his bravery and selfless actions in defense of the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, lieutenant Oleksandr Malanchuk was posthumously awarded the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi of the III degree. The Chernivtsi City Council renamed Mykolayivska Street and Mykolayivskyi Lane in Chernivtsi to Oleksandr Malanchuk Street and Lane.
Oleksandr Malanchuk is a worthy example of a true hero who gave his life defending his country. His deeds and sacrifice will remain in the memory of descendants as a symbol of courage and bravery.
