Cucumber Prices in Decline
Prices for greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine have dropped due to an increased supply from the latest harvest cycle of local farms and a simultaneous weakening of consumer demand. Current prices range from 125 to 170 hryvnias per kilogram, marking an 11% decrease from the end of the previous work week. It's important to note that the Ukrainian hryvnia is the local currency. Despite this recent dip, the average price offered by Ukrainian greenhouse complexes remains roughly 50% higher than it was in late February 2025.
Market operators link the situation with cucumbers to a modest rise in new-harvest supply and a reduction in consumer activity. According to analysts from the EastFruit project, nearly all of Ukraine's stationary greenhouse facilities have now begun selling this produce. Most key market players do not rule out further price reductions, as the supply of local produce continues to grow while the pace of sales remains unsatisfactory.
Potato Prices on the Rise
In contrast, Ukraine has recorded a significant increase in potato prices, which have risen by an average of 17% since the start of the week. The primary reason for this increase is a dwindling supply of high-quality potatoes in storage facilities. This creates a stark contrast in the vegetable market, with cucumber prices falling on one side and potato prices climbing on the other.
These price shifts highlight the dynamic nature of the market, where supply and demand directly determine product costs. While falling cucumber prices may offer some relief to consumers, the concurrent spike in potato costs raises concerns about food affordability. Such price volatility can directly impact household budgets and contribute to the broader inflationary pressures within the country's economy.
