Olympic champion Alex Yi set the second-best result in British history in the marathon

Alex Yi – the second fastest marathon runner in Great Britain


Olympic triathlon champion Alex Yi displayed impressive endurance in the Valencia marathon, finishing in second place among the fastest British marathon runners of all time. At the age of 27, he set new records, battling with himself and overcoming challenges.



Yi finished seventh, achieving a time of 2:06:38, which became the second-best result after 2:05:11, set by Mo Farah in Chicago in 2018. It is worth noting that Yi only started training for the marathon this year, taking a break from triathlon after the 2024 Olympics in Paris.



Marathon Training and Preparation for the Olympics


Before the start in Valencia, Yi put in significant effort to succeed. He noted that this marathon was part of his preparation for defending his Olympic title at the Los Angeles Games in 2028. After the marathon, he plans to return to triathlon next season, utilizing the skills he has gained.



“The marathon in Valencia exceeded all my expectations. I learned a lot in London, and with better preparation, I believed in the possibility of achieving something great. The atmosphere of the competition was extraordinary, allowing my legs and mind to push towards one of the best results of my life.”


Crossing the finish line, he expressed excitement about the result and emphasized that the marathon is truly a challenging distance.



Top 3 Marathon Results in Valencia


The marathon was won by Kenyan athlete John Korir with a time of 2:02:24. Second and third places were taken by German Amanal Petros (2:04:03) and Norwegian Avet Kibrab (2:04:24) respectively.



Alex Yi showed excellent performance in the marathon and continues to maintain a high level of preparation for future competitions. His victories encourage all sports enthusiasts to achieve the impossible.
