Ombudsman Reshetilova: Cases of Beating and Illegal Deprivation of Liberty Found in the Assault Units of the Armed Forces

Омбудсмен Решетилова розкриває ситуації насильства та незаконного утримання під вартою в підрозділах Збройних сил.

Detection of Mass Violations of Soldiers' Rights

Ombudsman Olga Reshetilova reported the detection of mass violations of soldiers' rights in some assault units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to her, cases of beating, illegal deprivation of liberty, and threats to life have been documented in these subdivisions. Materials confirming these violations have already been transferred to law enforcement agencies for further investigation.

Reshetilova emphasized that in certain parts, there is 'overt crime', which raises serious concerns. A representative of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine also noted that reports of such violations 'require special attention'. Despite these issues, the assault units remain effective on the battlefield. It is essential that information about violations of soldiers' rights is properly addressed, and those responsible are held accountable.

Urgent Need for Response

The detection of mass violations of soldiers' rights calls into question not only the ethical standards in the army but also the ability of the system to provide adequate protection of military rights. Such incidents require an urgent response from law enforcement agencies and the leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to prevent similar cases in the future.

The situation underscores the need for internal checks and reforms in military units to ensure compliance with human rights during armed conflict.
