New rules for counting insurance experience for teachers
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved new rules for counting insurance experience for teachers working abroad. These changes are a response to the needs of educators who found themselves outside the country due to the war and could significantly affect their pension rights.
According to the new rules, teachers need to meet two conditions to have their experience counted:
- have at least 180 hours of teaching activity per academic year;
- provide documentary evidence of their work.
These regulations will be in effect during martial law and for one year after its completion, allowing educators working abroad to accumulate the necessary experience for retirement.
Conditions for retirement
According to the current rules, teachers can apply for retirement after reaching 55 years of age, provided they have at least 30 years of teaching experience. In 2025, retirement by age will be appointed:
- at 60 years with 32 years of experience;
- at 63 years – with 22 years;
- at 65 years – with at least 15 years of experience.
At the same time, from 2026, the requirements for insurance experience will increase, and to retire at 60, one will need to have 33 years of experience.
These changes could significantly affect teachers working abroad and create additional opportunities for obtaining pensions, which is especially important given the current economic situation in Ukraine.
The introduction of new rules for counting insurance experience for teachers working abroad reflects the government's increasing attention to the problems faced by educators who had to leave the country due to the war. This decision is primarily aimed at supporting Ukrainian teachers in the difficult conditions created by military actions. It is expected that such changes will not only facilitate obtaining pensions but also encourage educators to continue their professional activities abroad, which could have a positive impact on their financial situation.
