Pentagon Publishes UAP Documents
On April 11, 2025, the Pentagon made public 162 previously classified documents concerning Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) through the war.gov/UFO website as part of the PURSUE program (Presidential UAP Reporting and Declassification System). This release marks the first in a series of disclosures aimed at providing the public with access to materials related to UAP research. The initiative reflects a broader push for transparency on a topic that has long fueled public curiosity and debate.
The files hosted on the specified website contain data from multiple sources, including:
- The FBI
- The Department of War
- NASA
- The State Department
Among the released materials are videos from military infrared sensors, archival NASA photographs, and eyewitness testimonies. Notably, the documents include data from the Apollo 12 mission in 1969 and Apollo 17 in 1972. One Apollo 17 operator stated:
“We now have several very bright particles or fragments—they are drifting past as we maneuver.” - Apollo 17 Operator
Photographs from Apollo 17 show three points in a triangular formation above the lunar horizon, and astronaut Alan Bean reported light flashes during the mission. The published video footage includes recordings made in 2024, lasting 1 minute 39 seconds, 9 seconds, and 21 seconds, captured by infrared sensors on military platforms.
Additionally, the documents contain internal military memos about a possible small UAP in Iraq in 2022 and numerous reflections or lights of unknown origin in Syria in 2024. 'These files, hidden behind classification marks, have long fueled justified speculation—it's time for Americans to see for themselves,' said Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth.
Of the 162 published documents, 108 contain redactions. The release of materials will continue, with new documents added to the site in batches every few weeks. Earlier, in February 2025, former President Donald Trump directed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to begin reviewing documents on alien and extraterrestrial life. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard and FBI Director Kash Patel are also involved in this process, and NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman has confirmed readiness to cooperate in this area.
Significance of the Declassification
This Pentagon document release represents a major step toward transparency on UAPs, a topic that has sparked widespread discussion and speculation in society. Given that the materials include testimonies and data from past space missions, this could advance the study of unexplained phenomena and their implications for scientific research. The declassification may also boost public interest in extraterrestrial life and potential technologies linked to UAPs.
As the Pentagon continues to unveil previously classified information about UAPs, it's worth reflecting on the significant move made in 2020 when Trump directed the Pentagon to release UFO archives. This earlier initiative set the stage for the recent disclosure, emphasizing the growing commitment to transparency in government investigations into unidentified aerial phenomena.
