Pentagon Admits Fault: Outdated Intelligence Led to Fatal Strike on Iranian School

Військові США визнали помилку: стара інформація призвела до трагічної атаки на навчальний заклад в Ірані.

Iran School Strike: A US Intelligence Failure

An internal Pentagon investigation has concluded that a strike on a school in the Iranian city of Minab, which killed at least 175 people, was the result of an American intelligence error involving the use of outdated data. The tragedy occurred on February 28th when a US Central Command-launched Tomahawk missile hit the building. This incident highlights the severe consequences of faulty intelligence in modern conflict zones.

According to the findings, the intended target was a nearby naval base operated by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The school was located just one block from the military base. Although the building had been fenced off and converted from a military complex into an educational facility between 2013 and 2016, the US Defense Intelligence Agency identified it as a military target using obsolete information.

Aftermath and Official Response

Central Command officers failed to verify the current status of the target before authorizing the strike. Satellite imagery clearly showed the building had long functioned as a school, lacked guard towers, and featured public entrances and children's playgrounds. In response to criticism, US President Donald Trump publicly denied American involvement in the attack, stating:

'In my opinion, based on what I've seen, Iran did it. As you know, they are very inaccurate with their munitions. They don't have any accuracy at all.' Donald Trump

The tragedy has sparked outrage and raised serious questions about the accuracy of intelligence used to justify military operations.

Such incidents underscore the critical importance of timely and reliable intelligence for military actions, especially in civilian areas. The failure to properly verify information can lead to irreversible consequences, including civilian deaths, which calls into question the ethical aspects of using force. Given the strained international relations, this case is likely to increase tensions between the US and Iran and prompt a critical review of military strategies in the region.
