Abu Dhabi Negotiations Conclude
The two-day talks in Abu Dhabi concluded on February 5th, with the Ukrainian delegation discussing critical issues with representatives from the United States and the Russian Federation. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that a subsequent meeting within the negotiation framework will be held in the near future. These talks are part of ongoing international efforts to find a diplomatic resolution to the war in Ukraine.
Following the trilateral meeting in Abu Dhabi, the negotiation process continued with working groups. Russia privately expressed the view that global recognition of Donbas as Russian should be part of any peace agreement. In response, Volodymyr Zelenskyy firmly stated that Ukraine would under no circumstances cede the Donbas region to Russia as part of a peace deal.
The Importance of Continuing Dialogue
Zelenskyy noted that all topics were discussed during the talks and emphasized the importance of maintaining dialogue.
“Regarding the next meeting – it was agreed that there will be another meeting soon,” he stated. The President also expressed hope that the process is moving toward quicker results and that the new meeting will provide an opportunity to continue the dialogue aimed at ending the war.
The continuation of the negotiation process indicates attempts by both sides to find a compromise in the complex situation surrounding the conflict in Ukraine. Ukraine's position, which rules out concessions on territorial integrity, remains crucial. Upcoming meetings could prove decisive in determining the next steps of the peace process and influencing stability in the region.
