The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced that the European Union will allocate two billion euros for drone technology for Ukraine during a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
The head of the European Commission called the assistance to Ukraine the 'first line of defense' for the European continent.
Von der Leyen noted that investments in drone technology will not only contribute to Ukraine's defense but will also allow the European Union to access advanced developments in this field.
The European Commission will allocate billions for drones for the Ukrainian army
In September, the announcement was made to allocate six billion euros for the production of drones for the Ukrainian army. The funding will be provided from frozen Russian assets.
The European Commissioner for Defense also called for the development of a 'drone wall' concept at the borders of the EU, following an incident involving the invasion of Russian drones into Poland's airspace. It is planned to use technologies that are already successfully implemented in Ukraine to create a joint defense system.
The European Union is providing Ukraine with financial support for the development of drones to enhance defense capabilities and cooperation with the EU in this strategically important field.
