Maria Timofeeva will represent Uzbekistan in tennis competitions

21-year-old Russian tennis player Maria Timofeeva has decided to change her sports affiliation and will henceforth compete for the Uzbekistan national team in international competitions. She is currently ranked 146th in the WTA rankings, with her best result being 93rd place.

In her last tournament in Portugal, Maria became the champion, winning the finals against an American player. It is worth noting that since the beginning of 2022, Russian athletes have been competing under a neutral flag due to the situation with the neighboring country.

"I represented Russia, and I was impressed that after my victory at the World Championship, the country's president Vladimir Putin sent me a telegram," said Tatalina in April 2022.

Another outstanding athlete from Russia is freestyler Anastasia Tatalina, known for her involvement with the CSKA military club, expressed her desire to participate in the 2026 Olympic Games. Tatalina supports military actions by Russia in the conflict with Ukraine, endorsing the slogan "we do not leave our own behind."

Ukrainian tennis player Maria Timofeeva has changed her sports nationality to Uzbek and won a tournament in Portugal. Meanwhile, freestyler Anastasia Tatalina has voiced support for military actions by Russia amid the escalating conflict with Ukraine.
