Relocation Assistance for Military Personnel: Who is Entitled to Payments and How to Receive It
Military personnel who are transferred to another unit or location are entitled to a one-time cash payment - relocation assistance. This assistance is intended to compensate for the costs associated with the change of duty station and relocation.
Who is Eligible for Relocation Assistance
Military personnel who can apply for relocation assistance include:
- those serving under contract;
- those on career service;
- those summoned from the officer corps.
The basis for payment is the order of the commander (head) of the military unit or educational institution. Applications for this assistance can be made within three years from the moment of relocation. It is important to note that relocation assistance can be provided for no more than two relocations within a calendar year.
Amount of Relocation Assistance
The amount of relocation assistance is equal to one month of salary for the military personnel. The calculation includes:
- base salary;
- rank pay;
- all monthly allowances.
Additionally, for each family member, there is an extra payment of 50% of the military personnel's monthly salary. This extra payment applies to a spouse, children (up to 18 years old or incapacitated without age limits), incapacitated parents or adoptive parents. If both spouses are military personnel, relocation assistance is paid to each individually.
Relocation assistance is an important element of social support for military personnel, helping them adapt to new service conditions. It also encourages mobility within the army, allowing for more effective allocation of resources and fulfillment of service duties.
