Higher Minimum Pensions and State Assistance
The Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers has approved increases to minimum pensions and state aid for the families of fallen soldiers and those missing in action, effective March 1, 2026. These measures are part of ongoing efforts to support those affected by the war. Under the new provisions, payments to non-working family members of deceased military personnel will see a significant rise.
- The minimum payment for a single family member—including spouses, parents, or children of the fallen—will increase from 7,800 hryvnias to 12,810 hryvnias.
- For families where two or more people receive aid, including children of the deceased, payments will rise from 6,100 hryvnias to 10,020 hryvnias per person.
- A separate calculation procedure will be established for non-working parents and spouses of the fallen.
Payment Indexation and Social Support
Starting March 1, 2027, the established amounts will be indexed annually based on inflation and the country's economic conditions. As Denis Ulyutin noted,
“Raising and indexing these payments demonstrates fairness, gratitude, and long-term care for the families of our Heroes.”
These changes to pension policy aim to support the families of military personnel who gave their lives for the country and to ensure their financial well-being. The increase reflects recognition of the sacrifices made by defenders and their loved ones, emphasizing the necessity of social support during a prolonged military conflict. The planned indexation from 2027 also indicates the government's intent to adapt social programs to economic changes, a crucial step in providing stability for vulnerable groups in society.
