Starting June 2026, Infantry Soldiers to Receive Contracts Worth Up to 400,000 UAH

З початку червня 2026 року піхотинці отримають нові можливості для підписання контрактів на суму до 400 000 гривень.

Ukraine's Infantry Day

Observed on May 6, Ukraine's Infantry Day was established by a presidential decree in 2019. The date carries deep historical significance—on May 6, 1648, the Cossack army led by Bohdan Khmelnytsky defeated the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth at the Battle of Zhovti Vody. This celebration highlights the critical role of infantry forces, especially given the ongoing military challenges the country faces today.

Financial Compensation for Infantry Troops

As of 2025, financial payouts for infantry soldiers have increased substantially:

  • Base minimum for a recruit: 20,130 UAH;
  • Base salary for a rifleman in the Ground Forces: 20,586 UAH;
  • For mountain assault units, the salary reaches 23,999 UAH;
  • Bonuses for combat or special missions: 30,000 UAH;
  • Those serving on staff assignments receive 50,000 UAH;
  • For time spent on the contact line: 70,000 UAH for every 30 days;
  • For direct participation in frontline combat: 100,000 UAH.

On average, an infantry rifleman can earn around 120,000 UAH per month, and with additional pay for being at the 'zero line,' this can rise to as much as 190,000 UAH.

Looking ahead, a major army reform is set to launch in June 2026. As part of these changes, the minimum salary for rear-echelon positions will increase to 30,000 UAH, a significant step toward improving social conditions for service members. For infantry troops, special contracts will be introduced with payments ranging from 250,000 to 400,000 UAH, meaning financial support for combat units will multiply several times over.

Data shows that the minimum allowance for rear-area personnel was roughly 13,000 UAH in 2022, rising to 20,130 UAH by 2025. In 2022, the base salary for a Ground Forces rifleman stood at 13,244 UAH, while the maximum frontline payment was approximately 113,000 UAH. In late April, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi signed an order mandating rotation, reflecting continued efforts to improve service conditions and support for military personnel.

'The Ukrainian infantryman holding the front line must feel that our state truly respects him.'
— Volodymyr Zelenskyy

Celebrating Infantry Day in Ukraine carries great weight amid today's military challenges, emphasizing not only the nation's historical legacy but also the pressing needs of its service members. The sharp rise in pay and the introduction of new contracts signal the state's growing focus on military social welfare, which could help boost morale and enhance the army's combat readiness.

As the nation prepares to enhance the financial support for its military, it is essential to recognize the historical significance of Ukraine's Infantry Day, celebrated on May 6. This day not only honors the bravery of past soldiers but also underscores the ongoing commitment to improving conditions for current infantry troops amidst evolving military challenges.
