The largest bank in Poland PKO Bank Polski is introducing additional security measures for online transactions. Some clients will have to undergo photo verification using the IKO mobile application during transfers — taking a selfie and a photo of an identity document. This is reported by InPoland.net.pl.
The bank explains that the new rules are aimed at protecting clients' funds in cases where there is an increased risk of fraud or an attempt at unauthorized access to the account. Photo verification will not be mandatory for all transactions and will be applied selectively.
PKO Bank Polski online transfers: when will the checks be activated
The additional confirmation mechanism will only be activated in situations that the bank's automatic systems identify as potentially dangerous. This includes, in particular, the following cases:
- recording atypical financial activity;
- increased risk of fraudulent actions;
- unusual transfer parameters, including the amount, recipient, or entry point into the system.
PKO Bank Polski emphasizes that photo verification does not replace standard methods of confirming transactions — SMS codes or biometric authentication, but only complements them.

Photo verification in IKO: how the confirmation will take place
If the system recognizes the transaction as risky, the client will receive a notification directly at the time of attempting to make a transfer. To complete the transaction, you need to:
- take a photo of your identity document;
- take a selfie in the IKO application;
- perform all actions within the time frame set by the bank.
If the client does not pass the verification in time, the transaction will be automatically canceled. The bank notes that the new rules are being implemented gradually, and clients will be informed about changes in advance through official channels.
