Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the conduct of rescue operations in Kyiv following a missile strike and spoke about the situation at the front. Rescuers continue search efforts under the debris in the capital, where over a hundred people received medical assistance, including 14 children among the casualties of the shelling.
“My condolences to all the relatives, all the loved ones,” - said the president, confirming the death of 14 people in Kyiv, including a six-year-old girl.
Russian troops have struck various regions of Ukraine. Rescuers and utility services are operating in all affected areas. The heaviest fighting at the front is taking place on the Pokrovsk Front. Zelensky emphasized that Ukrainian troops are successfully holding back Russian sabotage and reconnaissance groups and small units attempting to break into the cities.
“Ukrainian units are defending their positions and repelling attempts by the Russians to advance in all directions,” - he added, refuting Russian disinformation about the situation in Chasiv Yar.
International support and legislative initiatives
At international meetings within the OSCE, the president expressed gratitude for support from Europe and reminded of the importance of adhering to the Helsinki principles. The adoption of a law on the independence of anti-corruption bodies and sanctions policy against Russia was also discussed.
A briefing for EU ambassadors on sanctions policy took place at the Office of the President. Diplomats were provided with detailed recommendations on how to increase pressure on Russia, showing them debris from Russian missiles and equipment used to shell Kyiv.
Zelensky also reported on the preparation of new draft laws for August, particularly a law on a military ombudsman.
