The Death of Ihor Yakymchuk: 17 Months of Search and the Story of the Hero's Life

Ukrainians honor the memory of those killed in the Russo-Ukrainian War every day at 9 a.m. This time we will remember the name of Ihor Yakymchuk.


Soldier Ihor Yakymchuk was only 40 years old when he died on May 31, 2024, while performing a combat mission in the Donetsk region. This important information was disclosed by the Rivne City Council, referencing 'Hlavkom'.


Ihor Yakymchuk entered this world on December 19, 1983, in the village of Ostrozhan, Cherkasy region. He received higher education at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and Yaroslav Mudriy National Law University.


After completing his conscription service, Ihor worked as a judge's assistant and engaged in entrepreneurial activities. He was also actively involved in local sports life, playing for the 'Radon' football team.


The Yakymchuk family waited for his return for over 17 months, but unfortunately, their hopes were not realized. They had to learn about Ihor's death through DNA matching and the return of his body home.


The farewell to the soldier took place at Independence Square in Rivne, and the burial was held in the city of Korets.
