Hermanão da Silva Ramos Dies at 100

On May 4, 2026, news broke that former Formula 1 driver Hermanão da Silva Ramos had died at the age of 100. Born in Paris, France, he raced under the Brazilian flag. His Formula 1 debut came at the Dutch Grand Prix on June 19, 1955. The pinnacle of his career was a fifth-place finish at the 1956 Monaco Grand Prix. He was also the last surviving competitor from the 1955 24 Hours of Le Mans, a race marred by a catastrophic crash that killed a driver and roughly 80 spectators.

Tragedy Strikes Former Goalkeeper Vasyl Zanin

On the same day, it was reported that Vasyl Zanin, a former goalkeeper for the Luhansk football club Zorya, had died in a house fire in occupied Luhansk. Born on March 10, 1962, in Luhansk, Zanin was a product of the Zorya youth system. He played for the senior team from 1985 to 1986, making 53 appearances and conceding 45 goals. In 1986, he helped the club win the Ukrainian SSR championship and the Soviet Second League. Beyond Zorya, his career included stints with several other clubs:
