Tamara Kalustyan was born on October 1, 1925, in Kyiv. She received her education at the Faculty of Philology of Kyiv University, graduating in 1950. Later, in 1957, the singer completed her studies at the Kyiv Conservatory, where she studied under the vocal classes of Klara Isakivna Brun-Kamionska and Tetyana Mykhailova, as well as in the chamber singing class of Zoia Likhtman.
Kalustyan actively participated in the cultural life of the country. In 1968, she signed the 'Kyiv Letter', which testified to her civic stance. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Tamara Serhiyivna was a soloist with the Kyiv Philharmonic, where she performed numerous works by Ukrainian and world composers, gaining recognition and love from the public.
