According to 'Khvilya', ichthyologist of the I.I. Schmalhausen Institute of Zoology of the NAS of Ukraine Yulia Kutsokon warned the residents of Ukraine that some fish species may disappear from store shelves. This is especially true for pike and silver carp, whose catch has significantly decreased.
The main reason for the decline in fish stocks is the destruction of the Kakhovka reservoir, which negatively impacts the region's fish resources. Kutsokon points to the overall decline of the fish industry in the country as one of the problems associated with this type of fish.
'Amateur fishermen are not allowed to go out on the water in boats, it is prohibited. And not only amateurs. It is also difficult for industrial fishermen to get permits due to military actions and martial law,' she explained.
According to Yulia Kutsokon, many areas where it was once possible to catch silver carp and pike are now inaccessible due to occupation, mining, and environmental problems. Prices for these types of fish in Ukrainian stores are indeed high: a kilogram of silver carp costs 110 hryvnias, and pike - 229 hryvnias.
Ukrainians have been warned about the possible disappearance of popular fish species - pike and silver carp - due to decreased catches and problems in the fishing industry. This is predicted by ichthyologist Yulia Kutsokon, who noted that the situation is exacerbated by the ban on fishermen going out on the water and other circumstances such as martial law and environmental issues in occupied territories.
