This week in Ukraine, potato prices started to decline. Wholesale prices now range from 9 to 16 hryvnias per kilogram, which is 10% lower than last week, reports the EastFruit project.
The main reason for the devaluation is the start of potato harvest in the main regions and the increase in supplies of late varieties to the market, analysts explained.
Farmers note that this year buyers have become more demanding regarding the quality of potatoes. Now there is almost no demand for small potatoes; they prefer medium or large tubers. Due to the large harvest this year, potato prices have, on average, fallen by 18% and are unlikely to rise in the near future.
Potato prices in Ukraine have started to decline since the beginning of the week due to an increase in supply volumes after the harvest began. This trend is driven by greater demand for medium and large potatoes and buyers' selectivity regarding product quality.
