The start of movement from the roadside, passing intersections with priority signs, and the correct interpretation of prohibitory signs cause disputes among Ukrainian drivers daily and often lead to accidents. Ignorance or forgetting key nuances can cost not only time and money but also health.
To help drivers refresh their knowledge, the author of the YouTube channel 'For! The Rules' published a detailed analysis of three common yet complex road scenarios.
Situation 1: U-Turn Against the Start from the Roadside
The first task models a situation where the paths of two cars intersect: a yellow car is making a U-turn while a red car starts moving from the roadside.
'Which car driver must yield in the depicted situation?' - poses the question the author of the video.
According to the explanation, priority in this case belongs to the driver who is already moving on the roadway, that is, the yellow car. The driver of the red car, according to item 10.1 of the traffic rules, is obliged to yield to other participants before starting movement.
'Before starting movement, changing lanes, and any change in direction, a driver must ensure that it will be safe and will not create obstacles or danger for other participants in the traffic' - the key rule is quoted in the video.
Situation 2: Motorcycle and the 'Movement of Mopeds Prohibited' Sign
The second case demonstrates a motorcyclist approaching an intersection, where the sign 3.7 'Movement of Mopeds Prohibited' is installed. This is one of the most common mistakes when drivers confuse similar-looking signs.
'It is very important not to confuse this sign with sign 3.6 'Movement of Motorcycles Prohibited'' - warns the author. The action of sign 3.7 applies only to mopeds and bicycles with engines. Accordingly, the motorcyclist has every right to ignore this sign and continue moving in any permitted direction.
Situation 3: Intersection with the 'STOP' Sign
The third situation analyzes passing an uncontrolled intersection. A white car approaches it from a secondary road, where sign 2.2 'Passing without stopping is prohibited' is installed. Meanwhile, a yellow car moves along the main road (as confirmed by sign 2.3 'Main Road').
Here the rules are unambiguous: the driver of the white car is obliged to stop and yield to the yellow car, which is on the main road. Only after that can he continue moving.
Drivers often encounter complicated situations on the road, so it's important to have a clear understanding of the Traffic Rules to avoid conflict situations and ensure safety on the road for themselves and other participants.
