European Solidarity Party's Demands
The European Solidarity party is calling for an urgent session of the Verkhovna Rada to finalize the full composition of the government. Party leader Petro Poroshenko has urged President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to submit nominees for the positions of Defense Minister, Foreign Minister, and Head of the Security Service of Ukraine. Poroshenko stressed that Ukraine faces no shortage of qualified personnel for the Defense Ministry and emphasized the critical need for legitimate leadership during wartime.
Criticism and Proposals
Petro Poroshenko remarked that “yesterday the parliament lived through a strange day that was supposed to provide the country with answers but left only questions behind.” He pointed out that the most pressing question is how a nation now in its fifth year of full-scale war can afford to remain without a legally appointed Defense Minister, Foreign Minister, and Head of the Security Service of Ukraine, as mandated by parliament.
“Such positions cannot exist in a temporary mode. They cannot be managed by phone law or verbal instructions. These are constitutional posts that must possess unquestionable political and legal legitimacy,” said Petro Poroshenko.
The European Solidarity faction also initiated a petition in November 2025 calling for the resignation of the Svyrydenko government. Parliament recently dismissed the previous cabinet, highlighting the country's political instability. Poroshenko criticized the government's personnel policies and corruption scandals, stating that “if the presented facts are true, independent anti-corruption bodies must immediately launch investigations.” He added that “society has long recognized authorities trusted by the military, volunteers, and millions of Ukrainians.”
Thus, the European Solidarity party continues to actively advocate for forming a stable government and identifying candidates for key positions amid the ongoing war, which presents new challenges for Ukraine's political system. In the context of war, the issue of legitimacy and effectiveness of governance structures becomes especially critical, as it affects not only internal stability but also the country's ability to counter external threats.
In light of the ongoing political turmoil, the situation surrounding Ukraine's defense leadership has become increasingly urgent. As the Verkhovna Rada grapples with the need for new appointments, recent developments suggest a rift within the military hierarchy.
