Volodymyr Zelenskyy Weighs In on Mykhailo Fedorov’s Resignation

According to ХВИЛЯ: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has addressed the backlash triggered by Mykhailo Fedorov’s departure, confirming tensions between Fedorov and Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi. Zelenskyy pledged to keep Fedorov within his team, noting that his future role will be clarified later. Emphasizing the need for unity, the president remarked:

“People do what they want. They wanted to leave-and that’s fine.” - Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Mobilization Challenges and New Appointments

Zelenskyy also acknowledged ongoing issues with mobilization and the operations of Territorial Recruitment Centers (TRCs), calling some aspects ‘shameful.’ He added:

“They don’t sit down without me. A wartime president shouldn’t have to choose in such a situation. I deeply wish for unity. The parties haven’t found it. That’s not just their problem-it’s mine too. I don’t shy away from responsibility.” - Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Ihor Klymenko has been named as a potential candidate for defense minister. However, no documents have yet been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada regarding the appointment, and decisions on the heads of the Defense and Foreign Ministries will be made later. The new defense minister will be responsible for:

  • the military
  • mobilization
  • TRC operations

An updated Cabinet of Ministers lineup, led by new Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi, has been submitted to parliament, but the candidates for defense and foreign ministers were not included in the proposal.

The situation surrounding Mykhailo Fedorov’s resignation and the conflict with Oleksandr Syrskyi highlights the complexities of Ukraine’s internal politics amid wartime. As the country faces ongoing aggression, ensuring unity and coordinated action is critical for national security. Persistent mobilization and TRC issues could undermine the effectiveness of Ukraine’s defense strategy, making the selection of new leaders for the Defense and Foreign Ministries particularly urgent.

As the situation develops, the recent changes in Ukraine's leadership are crucial to understanding the broader implications for national security. The appointment of new key figures, including Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi and Defense Minister Oleksandr Khmara, could significantly influence military strategies and mobilization efforts during this critical time.
