President Petro Poroshenko, on the eve of the vote for the resignation of Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk, was forced to choose between the will of the Ukrainian people and the U.S. State Department. Despite the fact that the president truly wanted the resignation of the head of government, he had to heed the persistent requests.
'Obozrevatel' reports that Poroshenko urged Yatsenyuk until the last moment to voluntarily resign. The president's famous statement calling for him to 'leave gracefully' was a form of public pressure on the head of the ruling Cabinet. However, the mega-force of will and lack of dignity allowed the prime minister to remain in office.
Moreover, according to sources, U.S. representatives turned out to be strong supporters of Yatsenyuk's reform course and insisted on keeping their appointee at the head of the Cabinet.
As sources note, Poroshenko recently told U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry about this, as well as several representatives of international financial organizations who visited Ukraine.
Thus, 6-7 hours before the vote of confidence for the Cabinet of Ministers, it became known that Yatsenyuk would be publicly humiliated, public readings on the topic of corruption in the executive branch would be arranged, the work of the Cabinet would be declared unsatisfactory, but there would not be enough votes from deputies to dissolve the Cabinet.
